IS THE MONROVIA MIDDLE SCHOOL PTO A 501(c)(3)?

Yes! The MMS PTO received IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in May 2018! Any contributions through the MMS PTO are now tax deductible.

 

WHEN WILL MY CHILD RECEIVE A SCHOOL SCHEDULE?

Your student will receive a schedule at the Meet & Greet scheduled for his or her grade, which is listed below for this school year. Enter the school through the gym doors in the back of the school and follow the instructions as you enter.

 

     6th Grade Meet & Greet

     Monday, August 5, 2019 | 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

     7th & 8th Grades Meet & Greet

     Monday, August 5, 2019 | 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

     

 

Students will pick up schedules and will be able to walk through their class schedules. Students will be able to pick up pre-ordered school supply kits and purchase MMS spirit wear. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up for PTO membership.

 

This will be a come-and-go event for students and parents to meet teachers, familiarize themselves with their daily schedule and walk through the school. 

 

WHEN WILL MY CHILD RECEIVE THE SCHOOL SUPPLY KIT I ORDERED?

All school supply kits ordered through 1st Day School Supplies with the MMS PTO will be sent directly to MMS this summer before school begins. Sixth-grade students will be able to pick up their school supply kits when they pick up their schedules on the day MMS designates. 7th and 8th-grade students will be able to pick up their ordered kits on a date to be determined. Please watch for those dates to be announced this summer. All kits should be picked up from MMS before school begins. 

 

DOES MY CHILD HAVE REQUIRED SUMMER READING?

Yes! All upcoming students are required to read one book of their choice from the lists provided by the MMS librarians.

 

ARE PTO EVENTS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?

Yes! All PTO events are free and open to MMS parents and faculty, the Sparkman Family, and all of the community. The goal of the MMS PTO is to build relationships and community by providing events that will educate and encourage parents, teachers, and students. Join us at one of our next scheduled PTO sponsored events!

 

WHAT IS SPIRIT WEAR?

Spirit wear is anything that has the MMS logo on it that your student or you can wear. The MMS PTO will offer spirit wear catalog in the fall, and usually again in the spring. Limited edition t-shirts are often available for purchase in the School Supply Store, as well as at any PTO event.

WHAT ARE REBATE PROGRAMS AND HOW DO I USE THEM?

Rebate programs are programs supported by local businesses to help raise money for schools. Anyone, an MMS parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, or friend can help MMS buy supporting these businesses! MMS is supported by Publix, Kroger on Jeff Road and Hwy 72, Papa John's Pizza on Hughes Road in Madison, and Box Tops for Education. Each time you shop at these businesses or purchase products with Box Tops for Education labels, you can support the MMS family with hardly any effort at all. Please see the attached Rebate Programs list below.

 

WHAT IS THE STUDENT DRESS CODE FOR MONROVIA MIDDLE SCHOOL?

Student Dress Code (copied from MCSS Code of Conduct, page 6) The Madison County Board of Education believes good grooming and personal appearance are essential elements in the teaching and learning process. Students are expected to dress in a manner to ensure their health and safety. 

 

WHAT TIME DOES SCHOOL BEGIN AND DISMISS?

School begins at 8:30 AM. Carline drop-off begins at 8:00 AM in the back of the school. Students may not exit their cars until they are under the awning near the gym doors. Cars should enter car line at the far north entry only, on the north side of the ball fields. Traffic is one way only, but two lanes are available.

 

School dismissal begins at 3:30 pm. All buses must load and exit the property before car line students are dismissed. Cars should enter car line at the far north entry only, on the north side of the ball fields. Traffic is one way only, but two lanes are available. The left lane is for pick up under the awning near the gym. The right lane is for pick up in the parking lot behind the gym.

 

DOES MY CHILD'S LUNCH ACCOUNT ROLL OVER FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?

Yes! Your child will be able to use the same account used for the cafeteria from elementary to middle to high school. You may pre-fill the account with money online before school begins or pay cash or check throughout the year.

 

CAN MY STUDENT TAKE A WATER BOTTLE TO SCHOOL? 

From the MMS Administration, a clarification about water bottles. For the safety of our students, students may bring plastic unopened water bottles to school for use during the day. Purchased water containers may be used, but they must be clear and uncolored. Please contact the MMS office with any questions.

 

WHY DOES PTO MEMBERSHIP COST MONEY?

The MMS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports the teachers and students of MMS through many different venues throughout the school year. In addition to providing volunteers for various events, providing encouragement for the teachers, and helping to organize activities throughout the school year, PTO provides direct funding to help MMS with expenses relating to copies, supplies, technology, and other designated needs. The $10 PTO membership fee goes 100% into the PTO funds for helping MMS. Of course, any donation is welcome to put into the PTO funds! If your business or organization would like to sponsor the MMS PTO directly, please contact us for more information.

 

DOES THE MIDDLE SCHOOL COLLECT BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION?

Absolutely! Read more about Box Tops for Education for MMS here. 100% of proceeds from Box Tops collections goes directly back into Monrovia Middle School!

 

HOW DO I USE MY PUBLIX TAG?

Each time you shop at Publix grocery store and use your MMS designated key tag, a percentage of your sale will be donated directly to MMS PTO. Just present your green Publix key tag to the cashier. If you do not have a tag, ask the cashier to apply the sales percentage to MMS PTO. They will scan their own copy of the tag. If you do not have a tag and would like one, they will be available in the front office at MMS. 100% of all proceeds from our Publix Partnership goes directly back into Monrovia Middle School!

 

HOW DO I USE THE KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM FOR MMS?

Each time you shop at Kroger and use your Kroger card, a percentage of your sale can be donated directly to MMS PTO. First register online and link your account to Monrovia Middle School PTO, NPO number 69418. When you swipe your registered Kroger Plus card or use the phone number that is related to your registered Kroger Plus Card when shopping, a portion of your sale will go directly to MMS PTO. 100% of all proceeds from our Kroger Community Rewards Program goes directly back into Monrovia Middle School! HOW DOES PAPA JOHN'S DOLLARS FOR DOUGH WORK FOR MMS?

Eat yummy pizza and support MMS at the same time! When you place your order online, use our special school, MMS, complete your online order (delivery or carryout only) and watch the funds roll in just from eating pizza! 10% of all Dollars for Dough orders goes back to MMS! (Unfortunately, the Papa John's off Highway 53 is not a participating location.)
